Past Art Talks
Local emergency physician, Dr. Janet Jordan MD presentation discussed the process of sculpting in oil-based clay, from conception to finished piece. She will presented her pictorial path starting with a creative idea, constructing a wire armature, securing the piece to a sturdy base, deciding on an expressive pose, sculpting and readying the piece for the foundry.
Visual artist, David Burt, owner and director of David Burt Images. David has been using a camera as his primary tool, to capture the world around him since 1978. His work has been widely collected throughout the mid-west by individuals, schools and corporations.
Jerry Hatch. Back by popular request! Jerry's 2nd workshop/artist talk. During the workshop attendees were taught to draw on coated medium with a stylus using various metal points, such as silver or copper.
Danielle Hartzler. Danielle focused on the challenges in art and how the benefits of repetition in both creating art and the repetition of practicing art, mental health struggles plaguing so many young people, how to learn from it, and find a deep seated passion for creating and grounding despite inner turmoil.
John Whytock, professional, award-winning artist since 1979. His fine art has shown in galleries from San Francisco to New York City. May 23, 2019.
Jane Troup is a contemporary artist whose art can be viewed in art museums, galleries, private collections nationally, internationally as well as locally. Her website is www.janetroup.com. Hing Wah Hatch demonstrated Chinese Brush Stroke techniques May 31, 2018. Participants were welcomed with Hatch's expert guidance.
Ibiyinka Olufemi Alao, Artist and UN Ambassador for Art and Peace gave a free public program sponsored by Friends of the Springfield Art Museum and Studio 55 Fine Arts Guild on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 in the Springfield Art Museum Auditorium.
Evan Wright, Artist, Illustrator and Designer gave a free public art talk and graffiti workshop, sponsored by Friends of the Springfield Art Museum and Studio 55 Fine Arts Guild, July 20, 2017.
David Bigelow was our tour guide for the Evangel University Art Department art tour, April 20, 2017 to learn about the University’s art program and view the senior student art exhibit.
Friends of the Springfield Art Museum will sponsored a free art talk by Clarence Brewer, who will discuss how his art and music have been shaped by his African American heritage: February 9, 2016. Clarence will shared his experiences growing up as an African American in Springfield before and during the Civil Rights Movement in 1972. His art, including photography, drawing, painting and sculpture has been shown around the United States. King Clarentz (Clarence Brewer) is also a totally modern-thinking, cutting-edge bluesman who produces a unique sound in his music. He currently writes a regular column for Modern Art News, an online venue.
Rebekah Polly and Justin Gault: October 13, 2015. The talk and workshop is featured both artists who discussed their artwork and processes. Polly is a contemporary African-American artist, who explores race, identity and discrimination in her artwork, with a primary focus on painting. Gault is a painter, sculptor and fabricator who conducts his work through a series of time-based processes, using gestural movements and layering of media in order to express moments.
FOSAM Sponsored Live Art at Hammons Field Saturday, September 5, 2015. The artists: Gary Bedell and Charli Stout. Money raised from ticket purchases went to FOSAM, which supports the Family Art Lab at the Springfield Art Museum and other initiatives that benefit the Museum and our community.
Hue Parnell: July 7, 2015, Creava School For The Arts, 1667 E. St. Louis Street, Springfield, MO. Hue will be demonstrated the process that he uses for altering his works of art. Hue utilizes "found objects" as an integral part of his creative process. Please visit Hue's websites Parnell Studios.
